I'm Simon Portigal - a web and graphic designer based in Montréal. My practice so far has grown out of the circles I am nearest to - websites and posters for artists, not-for-profits, and community initiatives. I’m both interested in continuing that work while offering my practice to commercial contractors at larger scales.
Design is a second discipline for me. I've mainly worked in contemporary dance and performance since 2011. These two creative practices ask versions of the same questions: how to direct attention and draw the eye, how to compose within limited spatial and/or financial constraints, how to give clear form to abstract and/or conceptual visions, how to create somethings from nothings - embodied or digital; A choreographic practice turns out to be interesting, relevant training for web and graphic design.
A second discipline has also required differentiation and its own name. arthr.ca is taken from my rarely used first name - Arthur - a name largely absent of personal narrative for me. It is a name with plenty of open room for me to pour this new practice into.
Maybe you can help me do just that?
I'd love to work with you. If you have a project in mind - or aren't even sure yet what you need - reach out:
